A Legacy of Heritage & Hospitality

Founded in the late 19th century and inspired by the traditional British gentlemen’s clubs, the Mildura Club has long been a gathering place for community leaders, professionals, and friends. It is now open to both male and female members and visitors.

The Mildura Club is best known for its external façade, the design for which was won in an Australia wide architectural competition. Inside, the ‘old world’ charm has been retained, including the ‘punkahs’ in the lounge area. And open fire places.

Our Origins

The original club began as an exclusive venue for businessmen and professionals but fell into recession soon after its formation. It was successfully re-established in 1894 under the leadership of W.B. Chaffey and granted its liquor licence later that year.

In 1901, the club moved to the Mildura Cultivator building on Deakin Avenue. By 1918, membership growth prompted plans for a new, purpose-built home. Completed in December 1919 and officially opened in 1920, the new premises at the corner of Deakin Avenue and Ninth Street remain our home to this day.

Building Through Decades

  • 1930: A new billiard room opened.

  • 1933: A squash court was added.

  • 1954: Major renovations introduced the ‘Deakin Wing’.

  • 1992: Snooker tables were relocated to create a larger function space.

  • 2022: A vine-covered outdoor deck was opened, offering a relaxed setting overlooking Deakin Avenue and the statue of WB Chaffey.

Tradition Meets Today

Step inside and experience the club’s classic character:

  • Punkahs – Historic ceiling fans, now electrically operated, still grace the lounge area.

  • Wood Fireplaces – Several open fireplaces provide timeless warmth and atmosphere using local “mallee” roots.

  • Foyer Portrait – A distinguished portrait of our first president, Lord Ranfurly, welcomes guests in the wood-panelled entrance.

  • Reclining Nude’ – A beloved painting, originally hung over the bar, now displayed as a high-quality replica.

  • Our full-size snooker table remains in use for games of snooker, billiards, and pool.
